Mental Health with SLYO
#Mentalhealth is a topic that is not widely spoken about in our community. We often dismiss it and deal with it quietly. It is considered a weakness to see a therapist or even seek help. Unfortunately, we care more about what people will say about us than seek help for our wellbeing.
The aim of the mental health segment is to shed light on the issue and create a platform for people to reach out and seek help. We want to be able to help and direct people to resources that can help.
#VoiceItwithSLYO is a platform to talk about issues and topics we as Sri Lankans consider taboo.

Medical Pathway to Success - Zoom Meeting. Thank you!!!! Dr. Sahan Emmanuel, Dr. Nathan Butler, Deandra Kuruppu and Gushan Dissanayaka for talking the time for a great informative session. On July 5th 2020, SLYO held its first virtual career development webinar, Medical Pathway to Success Zoom Meeting. The event comprised of inviting medical students and practicing physicians in various specialties to describe what it is like being and becoming a doctor in the U.S. The COVID-19 pandemic had truly tested the importance of being a health care worker, and this program was to help aspiring students within our community who want to pursue a career in the medical field. The the event comprised of interviewing both the medical students and physicians, hosting a Q&A session for the students and concluded with a virtual interactive scavenger hunt session. It is SLYO’s intention to host similar events in the future that interests in various other professions, thereby allowing our students in the community to cultivate aspirations, mentorships, and even networking with professionals in the respective fields. #SLYOmedical #SLYO #Medicalpathwaytosuccess #medical
